About East Saint John Minor Basketball Association
Who we are
The East Saint John Minor Basketball Association (ESJMBA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing basketball and fun to the youth of Saint John, New Brunswick. Established in 1989, our primary objective has always been to "promote, develop, and encourage participation in the sport of basketball in the Saint John area." We are committed to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle through basketball, and we strive to foster an environment where kids can have fun, develop skills, and make new friends
What we believe
- Basketball is more than just a game. It is a sport that encourages physical fitness, teamwork, strategic thinking and builds self-confidence.
- All skill levels are welcome, from a first time-players to those with extensive experience
- Allow kids to play Basketball in a safe, fun and supervised environment.
- We aim to keep the cost of participation relatively inexpensive to prevent financial constraint as a barrier to allow everyone to play.
How we do it
- Accountability & Improvement: We regularly review and evaluate our basketball offerings to address any gaps or overlaps so we can provide recommendations for development and improvement within our association by working collaboratively as one team. We also adhere to the recommended guidelines, rules and principals set out by Basketball New Brunswick (BNB).
- Teach the FUNdamentals: Our approach to teaching combines skill development with engaging activities to ensure that kids are always having fun while improving their abilities.

- Leadership on the Court: We seek volunteers who share the same beliefs and approach to the game of basketball as we do. To ensure safety for our players, all coaches and volunteers are required to complete a criminal record & vulnerable sector check. Our coaches are expected to lead by example and demonstrate proper sportsmanship towards opposing teams and officials at all times.
- Partnership & Collaboration: We work together as an association and with partners to develop a coordinated, effective and efficiently managed organization to provide access and affordability to anyone who wants to participate.
